Theknus is the region of craft and production, one of the five continental nations of Solaria. Together with Iridia it forms the Southern League, the southern coalition of the island.

Theknus is the exonymic name of the territory; the attested endonym is Kudamef, “land of craft.” For the distinction between the two levels of denomination, see Exonyms and Endonyms; for the language spoken there, Kudamaf, see History.

In the system of symbolic geography Theknus answers the question of how: it is the territory of the transformation of matter through practical skills.

Domains

Theknus encompasses economy, craftsmanship, engineering, architecture, mechanics, cooking, and every form of transformation of matter through work. It also includes sport and physical activity, understood as the transformation of the human body: the most popular is nambag, in which the winner is whoever expends the least effort.

Capitals

Theknus’s two capitals are Sankofa (A) and Yantra (E), separated from each other by an interval of a perfect fifth.

Sankofa is technical memory, the archive, the tradition that builds on the experience of the past; Yantra is the device, the mechanism, the citadel of industry where knowledge becomes tangible production. Between the two cities, craft oscillates between remembrance and design, between repetition and innovation.

Symbolism

The two capitals hold the southern pole of two elements: Sankofa that of time, understood as memory, and Yantra that of energy in action. Both are connected by a meridian to their respective opposite cities of Castalia, Amal, and Qo.
