Altaluna is the region of philosophy and religion, located on the central plateau of Solaria. It is the territory where all the island’s meridians meet.
The name derives from the yearning to reach the light: if the entire island takes its name from the sun, Altaluna is the place that receives its rays and returns them as reflected light, moonlight, which rises as a symbol of thought seeking truth.
In the system of symbolic geography, Altaluna answers man’s why.
Domains
Ethics, metaphysics, theology, spirituality, mysticism, and reflection on the meaning of existence belong to Altaluna.
Capitals
Altaluna’s two capitals are Nuru (D) and Qamar (A♭). Unlike the other nations, the interval separating them is not a perfect fifth but a tritone.
Nuru is the divine made visible as a creative force in reality; Qamar is reflection, contemplation, matter becoming a mirror of the spirit. Altaluna is therefore caught in tension between action and contemplation, between inner recollection and the eruption of the sacred into the world: two forms taken by the same mystical experience, which the tritone unites and renders reversible.
The Refraction
In Altaluna lie the seeds of an original, whole light, not yet separated into its opposites: nature and technology, science, spirit, and communication coexist there since before being distinguished.
The plateau functions like a prism: Solaria’s light, passing through it, no longer proceeds in a straight line, but bends and differentiates. It does not break, it translates itself, and it is in this deviation that human experience as such is born. From the refraction come the two meridians that describe human experience in itself, that of consciousness and that of information, which pass through Alma and Eos.
The Division
The war has torn Altaluna apart: Nuru belongs to the Southern League, Qamar to the Northern Alliance. It is the only nation whose capitals lie on opposite fronts.
