The war of Solaria pits the Southern LeagueTheknus and Iridia — against the Northern Alliance, formed by Axia and Castalia. It concerns not only the control of territory: it is a clash between two ways of interpreting the world.

Each region corresponds in fact to a polarity of the seven elements, and the two coalitions represent interdependent and complementary dimensions. Yet each side tends to prevail over the other, without recognizing its own value in relation to what is different from it: the South claims the density of experience and matter, the North the clarity of abstraction and structure.

The factions

Altaluna is divided: its two capitals, Nuru and Qamar, stand on opposite fronts. Alma and Eos, the two minor islands, remain neutral.

Upon them, and thus upon human experience placed in the middle, falls the possibility, and at the same time the responsibility, of deepening or of healing the fracture.

The line of the front, drawn dashed through the center of the island: it separates Theknus and Iridia from Axia and Castalia and cuts the plateau of Altaluna in two.

The stages of the fracture

The war does not arise from a single event, but from a succession of steps: noise, ignorance, fear, distrust, conflict, war, and finally pain.

Noise prevents listening and produces ignorance; ignorance generates fear, and fear distrust; from distrust conflict is born, which organizes itself into war and leaves pain behind it.

Symbolic reading

Musically, the two factions correspond to two complementary pentatonic scales, placed a tritone apart: the C pentatonic for the Southern League, the G♭ pentatonic for the Northern Alliance.

Both are consonant, ordered, and self-sufficient, but precisely because of this, separate. The reduction of dissonance does not necessarily lead to peace: rather, it produces an apparent peace, founded on the exclusion of the other, which prepares the most radical form of dissonance. War, in this perspective, is not the eruption of chaos, but the outcome of two orders that have stopped listening to each other.

The two warring parties occupy ten notes of the chromatic total; only F and B remain excluded, which in turn form a tritone and represent individual consciousness faced with conflict. Belonging to neither of the two pentatonics, it remains outside the collective and ideological opposition of the factions.

The symbolic meridians respond to this same division, joining in pairs the capitals of opposing coalitions: lines of connection that underlie the idea of a complete world, in which opposites are not eliminated, but held together.

If one day the war ends, Solaria will not be a pacified world, but a tuned world: a geography of the possible, in which meaning does not emerge from the elimination of opposites, but from their continuous dialogue.

In the composition

From the tension between the two coalitions arises the image of wind and rain divided into two streams, one digital and one acoustic, which alternate until they collide into a single indistinguishable sound: this is the material of 03 - Wind and Rain.
